National Committee for Gems and An Ad-hoc National Committee for Gems and Jewellery consisting 14 Members representing various associations of Gems and Jewellery Sector has been constituted Jewellery nos of Gems and Jewellery It is set to draft Memorandum and Article of Association and other Rules/Bye-laws of the Domestic Counci The Government is supporting the process of setting up of Domestic Council for Gems and Jewellery, to encourage and boost domestic gems and jewellery sector. Hindu Kush Himalaya Assessment Two-thirds of Himalayan glaciers, the world's "Third Pole", could melt by 2100 if global emissions are not reduced, scientists warned in a major new study The 'Hindu Kush Himalaya Assessment' is released by the Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) It provides insights into changes affecting one of the greatest mountain systems in the world. At least a third of the ice in the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush will melt down this century as temperatures rise, disrupting river flows vital for growing crops from China to India.

  5. Nilavembu kudineer (a Siddha medicine) .The Tamil Nadu government has distributed nilavembu kudineer (a Siddha medicine) concoction to treat people infected with dengue during the outbreak. 1. Under in vitro conditions, nilavembu kudineer (a Siddha medicine) was found to provide protection against chikungunya virus while it was effective as a treatment during acute phase of dengue infection. 2. Dengue subtype-2, which is the most prevalent subtype in India, was used for testing the formulation. 3. There was significant antiviral activity of the formulation at 3% of human dose onwards 4. Currently, there is no treatment for dengue and chikungunya. 5. The mode of action is antiviral in the case of dengue while immuno-modulatory in chikungunya infection.

Black Softshell Turtle The black softshell turtle is being bred in the pond of Hayagriva Madhab Temple at Hajo in Guwahati, Assam Locals regard the turtles in the pond as Kurma avatar of Lord Vishnu to whom the Hajo temple is dedicated India hosts 28 species of turtles, of which 20 are found in Assam. Threats to turtles include hunting for meat and eggs, silt mining, encroachment of wetlands and change in flooding pattern have had a disastrous impact on the turtle population.   7. Hoveizeh long-range cruise missile: Iran has announced the successful test flight of Hoveizeh long- range cruise missile. The Hoveizeh Cruise Missile is part of the Soumar family of cruise missile and has a range of over 1,350 km (840 miles) It is designed to use against ground targets. The Hoveizeh missile needs a very short time for its preparedness and can fly at a low altitude and is manufactured by the Aerospace Industries Organization of Israel

Mahila Samridhi Yojana: * Skill development training is imparted to a group of women in women-friendly trades under the scheme and a stipend @ Rs.1,000 is available for each woman during the training period * During the period of training, the women are formed into Self Help Group, followed by infusion of micro-credit maximum up to Rs.1.00 lacs per member for the purpose of using the skill developed during the training, for income generation activities.

India's communication satellite GSAT.-31 launched successfully from French Guiana India's latest communication satellite, GSAT-31 was successfully launched from the Spaceport in French Guiana during the early hours today. GSAT-31 separated from the Ariane 5 upper stage in an elliptical Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit with a perigee(nearest point to Earth) of 250 km and an apogee (farthest point to Earth) of 35,850 km, inclined at an angle of 3.0 degree to the equator.

  10. Steps To Address Cross-Border Infiltration * The cross-border infiltration and illegal immigration are posing serious security threats to both internal and external security. The government has undertaken following steps to arrest the cross-border infiltration: * Multipronged approach to check infiltration by patrolling; sharing of intelligence and conduct of joint operations; erection of border fencing; installation of border floodlights; use of watercrafts/boats and floating Border Out Posts (BOPs) for domination of riverine area of the border; liaison with police, intelligence agencies, local government agencies; laying nakas; establishment of observation posts have been undertaken. *Surveillance equipment like Night Vision Devices (NVDs); Hand Held Thermal Imagers (HHTls); Long Range Recce Observation Systems (LORROS), etc have been deployed for effective technical surveillance.

Target Olympic Podium Scheme * Target Olympic Podium Scheme Launched by Ministry of Sports within the ambit of National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) * It will provide selected sportspersons customized training at institutes having world class facilities and also other necessary support is being provided to the elite athletes. * It will also provide a benchmark for selection of athletes on par with international standards. It aims at identifying and supporting potential medal prospects for upcoming Olympic Games.

  12. Angel Tax . Angel Tax is a 30% tax that is levied on the funding received by startups from an external investor. However, this 30% tax is levied when startups receive angel funding at a valuation higher than its 'fair market value' * The government has decided to set up a five-member working committee to look into the angel tax issue and come up with guidelines in one week. It is counted as income to the company and is taxed.

Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana * Aimed at skilling Indians seeking employment abroad. * The programme is also aimed at boosting the confidence of the Indian youth so that they don't feel like strangers when they land in a country of their choice for vocation. It will be implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation through its training partners and in consultation with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Skill Development Ministry.
