Answer: (x2 + y2) = (x + y)2 – 2xy or (x – y)2 + 2xy
From the above equation
(x + y)2 = x2 + y2 + 2xy…………………….(1)
(x – y)2 = x2 + y2 – 2xy……………………….(2)
From equation (1) and (2)
x2 + y2 = (x + y)2 – 2xy
x2 + y2 = (x – y)2 + 2xy
Hence, both of these are the answers of x2 + y2 .
