Explanation:
The largest organ in the lymphatic system is the spleen which has a similar structure to the lymph node. It is composed of red pulp tissue and is able to filter out old and disrupted red blood cells (erythrocytes). As these red blood cells are destroyed in the spleen it is known as the graveyard of RBCs.
Functions:
- Spleen recovers old damaged RBC and stores white blood cells.
- It helps in fighting the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia.
- It maintains the body fluids balanced and filter the blood.
