  3. When we think of the word development, invariably a specific picture comes to our minds Even Google gives us the same picture when we type the words developed city' in the search box



  4. When we measure development on the basis of this standard, we tend to call every other country as UNDERDEVELOPED or DEVELOPING Development has come to mean WESTERNIZATION That is why, many a times, we use the words MODERNIZATION and WESTERNIZATION interchangeably


  5. WHO GAVE US THESE NOTIONS OF DEVELOPMENT Quite obviously, the colonial rulers kept spreading their ideas of development in each of their colonies Since India was one of the colonial colonies, we have also developed similar notions of development

DO WE NEED THESE NOTIONS Every country has its own way of managing its land and population We cannot mpose some fixed notions of development on every country India, for instance, is largely arn agriculture- based economy We do not need to force it to transform into a service sector, like it is being done right now


  7. We definitely do not need these fixed notions of development


  8. WHAT IS DEVELOPMENT? Development means constantly striving for the improvement, progress and well being of the people in a society It basically means having a BETTER LIFE than before But again, who decides what this better life means?


  9. India still falls into This means that we are developing more However, can we say that all of us have a that wie teRETTER UIFE than the category of Developing nations and more with each before? Especially our farmers? passing day
