INDIAN SATELLITES For the past four decade ISRO has launched more than 65 satellites for various scientific and technological applications like mobile communication, DTH service, meteorological observation, telemedicine, Tele-education, Disaster warning, Radio networking, search and rescue operation, remote sensing and scientific studies of the space (a) INSAT (Indian National satellite system) series for communication, television broadcasting and meteorological services (INSAT satellite are geo stationary satellite)
(b) IRS (Indian remote satellite) for resources monitoring and management, these are earth observation satellite INSAT series:- The Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system is one of the largest domestic communication satellite systems in Asia-Pacific region with nine operational communication satellites placed in Geo-stationary orbit The INSAT system with more than 200 transponders in the C, Extended C and Ku-bands provides services to telecommunications, television broadcasting, satellite newsgathering, societal applications, weather forecasting, disaster warning and Search and Rescue operations.
(b) IRS Indian Remote Sensing Satellites areas of agriculture, water resources, forestry and ecology, geology, water sheds, marine fisheries and coastal management. Remote Sensing Passive Remote Sensing can only be used to detect energy when the naturally occurring energy is available Active Remote Sensing, provide their own energy source for illumination. The sensor emits radiation which is directed toward the target to be investigated
List of IRS satellite: Cartosat-2 Cartosat-2 Series Satellite is the primary satellite carried by PSLV- C40 RESOURCESAT-2A Is a Remote Sensing satellite intended for resource monitoring SCATSAT-1 SCATSAT-1 is a continuity mission for Oceansat-2 Scatterometer to provide wind vector data products for weather forecasting, cyclone detection and tracking services to the users.
