one doubt please from strength of materials we know that maximum value of stress is known as strength and in machine design particularly in design of riveted joints the load or the force is taken is strength for ex shear strength,crushing strength,or tearing strength why ?? while talking about strength shouldn't it be maximum value of shear stress or crushing stress or tensile stress ????
