  1. SPRINGS An Overview Presentation by: Karthik Balaji Keshavamurthi

  2. What is a spring? A machine component . Found in many day to day applications. Deflects based on load applied

  3. APPLICATIONS SHOCK LOAD ABSORBER (Automobile Suspension System) -ENERGYSTORAGE DEVICE (Toys) FORCE MEASUREMENT TOOL (Spring Balance) -POSITION RESTORER (Automobile Stand)

  4. SPRINGS Helical Leaf Springs Compressi on springs Tensile Springs Torsion springs

  5. Leaf Springs Also called as Laminated Springs : Used in heavy vehicle suspensions

  6. Helical Springs Suspension is in the form of coil in the form of helix - There are three tvpes namely Tensile, Compressive and Torsion springs

  7. Tensile Springs . They deflect due to tensile load. Once load is removed, original position is restituted Also known as Closed Coil Springs . Eg: Spring balance

  8. Compressive Springs Absorb Compressive load. . Once load is removed, original position is restituted. Also called as open coil springs. . Automobile Mcpherson Strut suspension spring

  9. Torsion Spring:s Absorb Torsion or turning load. Used in many day to day applications. Most renown application is the clips for holding paper .
