INTRODUCTION TO LABOUR WELFARE For the protection of the rights of labour a special legislation has been enacted which is known as Labour Welfare. Labour Welfare schemes are customized according to the age group, sex, socio- cultural background, marital status, economic status, the value system, level of education, & degree of industrialization & general standards of socio-economic development of people
THE TOFLABOUR WELFARE conference described welfare to mean "such services, facilities, amenities, which may be established outside or in the vicinity of undertakings to enable the persons employed therein to work in a healthy & congenial surroundings & to provide them with amenities conducive to good health & high morale Labour Welfare Services include all extramural & intramural welfare work, statutory & non-statutory welfare facilities undertaken by the employers, government, trade unions or voluntary agencies. Social security measures have also been included that contribute to workers welfare such as insurance, provident fund, gratuity, maternity benefits, workmen's compensation, retirement benefits, etc.
Acommittee of experts on welfare facilities for industrial workers was constituted by the ILO in 1963. < Intramural Welfare amenities within the precincts of the establishment(intramural) such as latrines & urinals, washing & bathing facilities, cr ches, rest shelters, canteens, drinking water, arrangement for prevention of fatigue, health services, including occupation safety, administrative arrangements to look after uniforms, protective clothing & shift llowances * Extramural. Welfare amenities outside the establishment such as maternity benefits, social insurance measures including gratuity, pension, provident fund & rehabilitation, benevolent fund, medical facilities including programs for physical fitness & efficiency, family planning, & child welfare, education facility, housing facilities, recreational facilities, leave travel facilities, vocational training for dependents of workers, transport facilities to & from workplace.
OBJECTIVES To secure just & humane condition for this vital segment of the community To provide better life & health caring attitude to the workers *To build a sense of loyalty on the part of employee by showing the this caring attitude *To create happiness & satisfaction among workers to enhance productivity To relieve workers from industrial fatigue & to improve intellectual, cultural, material conditions, of living of the worker *To provide them balance diet at subsidized rates in order to improve their physical health. To provide them medical & maternity benefits in order to improve their physical health, To provide them clean, organized & hygienic environment to work.
