This entire collection gives an overview of pre-fertilization structures and events of Angiosperms. It starts by explaining the concept of Pollination, its definition i.e. the act of transferring pollen grains from the male anther of a flower to the female stigma, types of Pollination - Autogamy, Geitonogamy and Xenogamy, devices for autogamy and devices for cross pollination. It then educates us on the concept of Incompatibility i.e. the mechanism which prevents the self-pollination of ovules from the pollens of either the same flower or the different flowers of the same plant. The next part of the collection deals with two types of pollinating agents: Anemophily - Using Wind and Hydrophily - Using Water. It then throws light on the role of insects as pollinating agents and also pollen robbers. After this, it deals with all the details of the development of the Female Gametophyte, along with the use of a well-labelled illustration for its explanation. It then explains all the types of ovules and also describes the process of Megasporogenesis. It also gives a brief idea on the process of Microsporogenesis and the process of development of Male Gametophyte.
