PRADHAN MANTRI FASAL BIMA YOJANA Launched on 2016 Theme: "one scheme,one premium, one nation" To bring all farmers under one premium Previous schemes CCIS: comprehensive crop insurance scheme-1985 NAIS: national agriculture insurance scheme-1999 WBCIS: weather based crop insurance scheme: 2007 MNAIS:modified national agri insurance scheme: 2010
OBJECTIVES: To provide coverage and financial support to To stabilise the income of farmers and ensure . To encourage farmers to adopt innovative and farmers in the event of crop failure their continuance in farming modern agricultural practices To ensure flow of credit to the agriculture sector
Implementation . Follows area based approach i.e defined area for each crop and risk associated with it Fundamental area for assessment of crop loss- villages( in previous schemes- block/mandal were the unit for assessment) . All the crops notified by the govt will be covered Notified area is decided by the state govt There is no cap on premium/reduction of sum ensured, there will be prompt and easy settlements within a fixed duration.
Technology will be used for assessing crop loss through remote sensing & smartphones. There will be one Insurance company covering entire state, localised crop loses are also covered . Post-harvest losses are also covered. . AIC Agriculture Insurance Company- main Insurance provider; private insurance companies are permitted. . Ministry of Agri-nodal implementing agency. . Choice of Private Insurance Company is left to the state's choice.
