This course will be dealing with the absurd, existential play Waiting For Godot by Samuel Beckett. A play written against the backdrop of the two world wars, people had lost faith in God. There was suffering, pain everywhere. The premiere was on 5 January 1953 in the Théâtre de Babylone, Paris. The English language version was premiered in London in 1955. Beckett refrained from elaborating on the characters beyond what he had written in the play. Vladimir stands through most of the play whereas Estragon sits down numerous times and even dozes off.
