Choosing the Set of Similarly Related Figures

Analogy highlights comparison between two sets of figures having a relationship on the basis of size, shape, number of elements with another match of figures.

Introduction

Selecting the sets of similarly related figures is the non-verbal part of the analogy. In other words, comparison between two sets of numbers results in the analogy of similar sets of figures. The question formed on the basis of analogy may or may not require numerical skills and is based on rational thinking. Two pairs or sets of numbers can be said analogous when a match of figures expresses some sort of relationship between them at the time of comparison. This is based on the shape, rotation, the number of elements, interchange of elements and others. Here, the selection of the number is based on the figures that represent similar characteristics.

Choosing the Set of Similarly Related Figures:

The analogy helps in the comparison between two sets of figures as well as two sets of numbers. It is based on the selection of similar numbers that share similar relationships in the form of shape,  size and rotation. The questions consist of various figures and numbers that look similar. There are figures for sets of numbers that look similar but do not indicate similar relationships. The questions are not numerically solved but warrant analogical solutions. Figures from the first part of the problem bear some relationships with the second figure of the first problem. In the same way, the answer consists of one of the figures that have the same relationship between the first figure from the second part of the question. Selection of the figures from the set of answers will be based on the relationships that share similar characteristics in the figures of the question part.

Choosing the Set of Similarly Related Figures Example

Choosing similar sets of related figures can be better understood with the help of examples

  Figure 1: sets of figures

In the figure above, it can be seen that there are two sets of figures. The figure with two boxes is a question, while there are five figures from which we have to get the right answers. There is a certain relationship between the answer sets of figures and the figures of the question part. On comparing all the figures from the set of figures in the question form, it can be seen that the set of figures numbers as question 3 is the correct answer. It is because in the question set of figures it gets expanded as well as the and the elements in the second figure question part is inverted and placed inside the box, which is similar in the third sets of figures in the answer part of the question. In another example, it can be seen that,

  Figure 2: sets of figures

From the sets of figures in the question part, it can be analyzed that the figure set from number four is correct. It is because the head element of the triangle moves in two spaces and elements on its head which is a circle move for three spaces.

Choosing the Set of Similarly Related Figures: questions

Choosing the similar related figures set can be better understood with the questions following.

  1.  Find the set of figures that has the same features choosing from given options.

 Figure 3: sets of figures

Correct Answer: C

Figures b and e are similar because both figures include only one black point.

  1. From the five figures below, find the set of figures which has similar characteristics?

 Figure 4: sets of figures

Correct answer: 5

The upper element in the set of figures rotates 90 degrees clockwise, while the lower elements rotate 90 degrees anticlockwise. Both elements move in the adjacent sides in the clockwise direction of the square boundary.

Conclusion

In the analogy section, there are two types of questions that arise from the verbal section or non-verbal section. Choosing similar sets of figures belongs to the non-verbal analogical part. Selection of sets of figures requires thorough analysis and rational thinking, as the similarity of relationship is based on the size, shape, rotation, number of elements and group of elements. There are two sets of figures, one belongs to the question part and another set of figures belongs to the answer part of the question. The answer part has more than two sets of figures. Both the sets have certain relationships, which can be found by analyzing the shape of figures.
