Introduction

So, in our surroundings, there are various types of force acting. In physics, force plays a very important role. Any interaction will change the motion of an object when unopposed is understood as force. Forces can be classified into two types of forces, Conservative forces and Non-conservative forces. Most crucial aspect of physics is the Conservative force. The electrostatic force, magnetic force, gravitational force and elastic force are the different types of forces of nature. In the real world, in isolation the conservation forces do not exist.

Define Conservative force:

Conservative force is the force when any kind of work is done by or against it in moving an object is independent of its object’s path. 

“A force whose work is done is independent of the way taken and which is dependent on the final positions and the initial positions only.” 

For the potential at any point, it is possible to appoint a numerical value. So, the force changes the potential energy of the object, while the object moves from one location to another location by an amount of potential energy that is not dependent on the path taken, the widespread conservation of energy and contributing to the mechanical energy. The conservative forces are mainly a source of reusable energy. 

Importance of the conservative force:

  • For storing energy which can later be put for any type of useful work, the conservative forces help us, humans. 
  • Let’s say that an object can be raised off the ground for the gravitational force to act on it over and over, and a bow-and-arrow can be set and released many times. 
  • In the real world, in isolation the conservation forces do not exist. 
  • Whatever that situation is explained here, as heat from the force of friction few energies always dissipated. 
  • These types of forces are without limit. 
  • The conservative force break and elastic limit is reached by a stretched spring, at some point. If we drop a coffee cup from the fourth floor of a building it will not only break but it will also smash in a way that it will be in no position of being repaired. 
  • An engineer or physicist with a strong knowledge and understanding of the limits of these objects can make car batteries, dams, myriad,  grandfather clocks and many other useful devices. 

Conservative force examples

There are different types of examples of conservative force like, 

  • The magnetic force
  • The electrostatic force, 
  • The spring force
  • The gravitational force and several others.

But among these the Gravitational force is the most widespread and crucial example of conservative force. 

Another example of conservative force is the force which is wielded by a spring. By a spring the entire work done on a mass is not dependent on the path taken by the mass. Whereas the entire work done on a mass depends on the final and the initial position of the mass. The establishment of the term conservative was taken from the fact that the conservative forces conserve mechanical energy, whereas the establishment of the term non-conservative was taken from the fact that the non-conservative energy does not conserve mechanical energy. 

Properties of Conservative Forces

Some properties of Conservative forces are, 

  • The Conservatives forces only depend on the final position and the initial position irrespective of the path taken. 
  • The task accomplished by these forces in any path that is closed is zero. 
  • The work done by a conservative force is reversible in nature. 
  • In any kind of stored energy or on the potential energy only the conservative forces outcomes. 
  • The force can be recovered when it is correlated with energy or work. 
  • The conservative forces are mainly a source of reusable energy. 

Mechanical Energy

The entire amount of mechanical energy is constant only when the conservative forces are acted on and within the system. 

Mechanical energy equation is, 

KE + PE = constant

or

KEi + PEi = KEf + PEf

In which, 

  • i is denoted for initial values, and 
  • f is denoted for final values. 

Therefore, this process is referred to as the conservation of mechanical energy.
