NEET-UG 2027 Question Paper Overview

The NEET exam paper tests the knowledge of the candidate on the principles taught in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology according to the Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus.

These questions are basically objective type questions wherein the candidate has to select the correct choice from four given choices.

Physics question paper

Physics is an assessment of the conceptual understanding, problem-solving ability and formula application of the learner.

Some of the key preparation topics are:

  • Mechanics
  • Thermodynamics
  • Electrostatics
  • Current Electricity
  • Magnetism
  • Optics
  • Modern Physics

Chemistry question paper

Chemistry assesses your ability to apply theories, solve numerical problems and understand concepts of chemistry.

Topics include:

  • Physical Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry

Students should revise their concepts as well as solve numerical problems based on NCERT.

Biology question paper

Biology has the highest weightage among all the subjects, with 90 questions worth 360 marks in the pattern of 2026.

It encompasses:

  • Botany
  • Zoology

Biology needs high-level concept clarity along with NCERT preparation and diagram statement questions practice.

Marking Scheme of NEET: Every Rule You Need to Know

The marking scheme for NEET decides how the candidates would get marks for their correct, incorrect, and unanswered questions. It is necessary to understand the marking scheme due to the penalty for negative marking.

The most recent marking scheme is as follows:

Response Type

Marks Awarded

Correct answer

+4

Incorrect answer

-1

Unanswered question

0

More than one option marked

Treated as an incorrect response under the applicable instructions

Important rules of the NEET marking scheme

  1. Correct answer: +4 marks

Candidates receive four marks for selecting the correct or most appropriate answer.

  1. Incorrect answer: -1 mark

One mark is deducted for every incorrect response. Random guessing can therefore reduce the overall score.

  1. Unanswered question: 0 marks

No marks are awarded or deducted if a candidate leaves a question unanswered.

  1. Multiple responses

Candidates must follow the answer-marking instructions in the official bulletin. Marking more than one option for a question is not treated as a valid correct response.

  1. Questions with multiple correct options or errors

When a question has more than one correct answer, no correct answer, or is wrong, the NTA can use certain evaluation criteria. The procedure that must be followed is explained in the examination instructions and answer key.

How does negative marking affect your NEET score?

Consider the following example:

Response

Number of Questions

Marks

Correct

150

+600

Incorrect

20

-20

Unattempted

10

0

Final Score

180

580/720

This serves to illustrate that accuracy is just as important as making an attempt at a lot of questions. Students are advised not to waste time on questions they can’t do.

NEET (UG) Languages/Medium of Exam

NEET is administered in several languages to ensure that the test is easy for students of diverse language backgrounds.

The 2026 NEET-UG system offered 13 languages, which include English, Hindi, and other regional languages. The languages available for NEET 2027 will be listed in the information bulletin.

Students need to choose their medium while filling out the application form carefully. Availability of the language depends on the examination center and the notification of NTA.

Which Languages Are Available for the NEET Exam?

The NEET-UG 2026 pattern would enable candidates to opt for their question paper in any one of the 13 following languages:

  1. English and Hindi

These are the two primary language options available to candidates.

  1. Regional Languages
  • Assamese
  • Bengali
  • Gujarati
  • Kannada
  • Malayalam
  • Marathi
  • Odia
  • Punjabi
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Urdu

Candidates must verify whether their chosen language of examination is available in their chosen examination center before filling the application form.

Note: The above table has been made in the format of NEET-UG 2026. NTA will officially inform regarding the languages available for NEET 2027 from its Information Bulletin.

NEET Exam Difficulty Level: What the Numbers Actually Show

The level of difficulty of NEET cannot be quantified with the help of any fixed value. It varies depending upon the nature of questions asked, topic distribution and the required level of conceptuality. The exam may be deemed difficult if it involves complex calculations, odd phrasing or conceptual complexity of the questions. But the level of difficulty may vary from person to person.

A practical approach for judging the level of difficulty of NEET would be to do it separately for each subject.

Subject

Areas That Can Make the Paper Challenging

Preparation Focus

Physics

Numerical calculations, conceptual applications and multi-step problems

Formula application, conceptual clarity and timed practice

Chemistry

Reaction-based questions, numerical problems and detailed theoretical concepts

NCERT revision, reaction practice and regular problem-solving

Biology

Detailed statements, closely related options and factual recall

NCERT-based revision, diagrams and repeated practice

How should students interpret NEET difficulty?

The fact that a paper is tough does not necessarily imply that all the candidates will perform badly. It also depends upon the performance of the candidate batch as well.

The candidates must concentrate on:

  • Accuracy instead of trying blindly.
  • Completion of the syllabus.
  • Consistent revision of NCERT books, more so of Biology & Inorganic Chemistry.
  • Practice under time constraint.
  • Error analysis after each test.

How Many Chapters Are There in NEET?

There cannot be a permanent number of chapters in NEET since the syllabus is divided into units and topics subject-wise, which can further be changed by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The subjects of the exam include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as per the syllabus of Class 11 and Class 12 as notified. There will be variations in the number of chapters as shown in the various study materials as per how a topic is treated as a separate chapter, subtopic, or combination of topics.

Candidates can categorize the syllabus for their preparation as follows:

Subject

Broad Syllabus Areas

What to Cover

Physics

Mechanics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Electricity, Magnetism, Optics and Modern Physics

Concepts, formulas, derivations where relevant and numerical problems

Chemistry

Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry

Concepts, calculations, reactions, periodic trends and NCERT topics

Biology

Diversity, Structural Organisation, Cell Biology, Plant Physiology, Human Physiology, Reproduction, Genetics, Evolution, Biology in Human Welfare, Biotechnology and Ecology

NCERT concepts, diagrams, examples and factual details

How should you count NEET chapters?

Consider the syllabus prescribed by the authorities as the main source and not the number of chapters that may be available on any coaching website.

A better way would be to:

  1. Download the most recent syllabus of NEET prescribed by the authorities.
  2. Divide the topics into Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  3. Map them to the chapter in Class 11 or Class 12.
  4. Find out which topics have been deleted, added, or modified.

3 NEET Myths That Quietly Ruin Scores

Many NEET aspirants believe in certain notions about the test that may prove to be detrimental for their preparation. Knowing the nature of the test itself is beneficial for them.

Common Myth

What Candidates Should Know

Better Approach

Attempting every question is necessary to score well.

Incorrect answers attract negative marking. Attempting a question without sufficient confidence can reduce the score.

Prioritise accuracy and make informed attempts.

Biology alone can guarantee a strong NEET score.

Biology carries 50% of the marks under the latest confirmed pattern, but Physics and Chemistry together account for the remaining 50%.

Prepare all three subjects consistently.

The exam pattern never changes.

NTA can revise the examination scheme, duration, mode or instructions through official notifications.

Check the latest Information Bulletin before the examination.

How to Prepare According to the NEET Exam Pattern 2027

Understanding the examination pattern comes first; next is preparing a strategy that takes into consideration the question paper pattern, weight-age for each subject, and the negative marking policy.

1. Give every subject adequate preparation time

The subject of Biology has 360 marks, whereas both Physics and Chemistry have 180 marks each according to the latest pattern. Biology is undoubtedly an important subject; however, candidates must prepare for all subjects equally.

2. Practise previous-year questions

Previous year questions allow the candidate to know about the methods through which concepts are asked and also the repetitive topics.

Practise subject-wise and chapter-wise questions through the Unacademy NEET Previous Year Questions resource.

3. Take regular mock tests

The mock tests enable the aspirant to judge his/her preparation within the constraints of time. The mock tests will also enable the candidate to locate weaker chapters and choose better questions.

Instead of looking at the marks obtained from the mock tests, the candidate must analyse the wrong answers and those questions not attempted by him/her.

4. Practise both offline and online tests

As the test format for NEET 2027 is yet to be confirmed officially, taking mock tests offline as well as online may prove helpful for students to get used to different kinds of exam formats.

The Unacademy NEET UG 2027 Offline CBT programme includes 13 offline tests and 15 online proctored tests. This allows aspirants to practise conventional OMR-based examinations as well as computer-based testing.

5. Revise NCERT consistently

NEET preparation requires NCERT to be a strong base, especially in Biology and Inorganic Chemistry. Constant revision helps aspirants remember the definition, example, diagram, reaction, and concepts.

6. Analyse subject-wise performance

Keep your performance record separate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This will aid you in determining whether your grade is being influenced by a lack of concepts, calculation mistakes, memory errors, or poor time management.
