Multiplication Tricks

In the following article, we are going to know about Multiplication Tricks.

Table of Content
  •

Introduction:

Long and difficult multiplication problems necessitate the use of multiplication tricks. Multiplication is simple for single-digit, two-digit, and even three-digit integers. It takes a long time to solve higher numbers with more digits, such as 4, 5, 6, 7, and so on. As a result, we’ll learn some magic maths tactics for quick calculations here. These techniques can also be utilized to help students prepare for competitive exams.

Multiplication Tricks

Multiplication and division, addition, subtraction, differentiation, integration, and other arithmetic computations or operations are all covered in Math. Each calculation has its own way of determining the relationship between the numbers based on the operation that was performed on them.

Multiplicand and multiplier

It is important to understand what the numbers are named when the multiplication operation is applied to them. The multiplicand refers to the number being multiplied. The multiplier is the amount by which the initial number is multiplied.

Let us consider the following scenario:

5 × 20, here, the multiplicand is 5, and the multiplier is 20 in this operation.

How to multiply quickly

Here are some ideas and strategies that will help you answer multiplication problems quickly and also applied to competitive tests as well. To calculate fats, it might memorize multiplication tables. Let’s look at some multiplication strategies for various numbers.

  • Multiplication by 2: It represents a number that is twice as large.

For example, in 3 × 2, we must double the number 5, so we may apply the addition method, i.e. 3 + 3 = 6.

  • Multiplication by 3: It refers to a number that has been multiplied three times.

For example, 7 × 3 = 7 + 7 + 7 = 21

  • Multiplication by 4: refers to the doubling of a double number.

for example, 6 × 4: double of 6 is 12. As a result, the double of 12 is 24(6 × 4).

  • Multiplication by 5: If a number has been multiplied by 5, split it by two and multiply by ten.

For example: 8 5: divide 8 by 2 to get 4, then multiply 4 by 10 to get 40.

  • Multiplication by 8: Double three times

For example, 7 × 8: 7 + 7 = 14, 14 + 14 = 28, and 28 + 28 = 56

  • Multiplication by 9: Add +1 to 9 and subtract the number to be multiplied from itself.

For example: 4 × 9: 9+1 × 4-4 = 10 × 4-4 = 40 -4= 36

  • Multiplication by 10: Simply add a zero to a number to increase it by ten.

for example , 2 x 10 = 20

  • Multiplication by 11: This approach can be used to multiply numbers up to 9 times 11. To get the outcome, simply repeat the number.

Consider the fact that 5 x 11 = 55.

  • Multiplication by 12: Multiply the number by 10 first, then add it to the double of that number.

Consider the number 5 x 12 as an example. The result of multiplying 5 by 10 is 50. Then add this number 40, to double the number (4 x 2 = 8) which is 8. As a result, 40 + 8 = 48.

  • Multiplication by 15: Multiply the number by 10 first, and then add half of the result to get the final answer.

For example: 6 x 15, When you multiply 6 by 10, you get 60, and when you add half of that, you get 90.

6 x 15 = 60 (6 x 10) + 30 (60/2) = 90

  • Multiplication by 20:

It’s simple to multiply a number by 20. Simply multiply the number by ten before doubling it. Consider the number 20 x 7. When you multiply 7 by 10, you get 70, and when you double it, you get 140.

Table of Multiplication

The multiplication method is used to create tables of varying numbers. It is always recommended that pupils memorize the tables from 2 to 20, as this will make solving multiplication problems much easier.

Let’s make a table for the multiplication of 2 to 10 integers that will make it easier for you to remember.

Solution: Use the double-up methods twice when multiplying 4 by any number. For example, 5 × 4, so 3+3 = 6 and 6+6 = 12 are the same, then 6+6 Equals 12. As a result, the correct answer is 12.

Solution:  we need to multiply 98 by 99.

Firstly, Write

99 = (99 – 100) = 1

And 98  = (98 – 100) = -2

The diagonal sum are = 99 + (-2) = 97 and,  98 + (-1) = 97

Thus the first part of the solution is 97 and now for the next second part, )

 Multiply two integers to get the product: -1 * -2 = 2

As a result, the second component of the answer is 02.

Thus, the result is 99 * 98 = 9702.

Solution:  When mentally multiplying, most people prefer to start with the larger or more important amounts. This provides an approximation of the expected value. Front end or left to right multiplication is one such way. Students that use this strategy multiply tens before ones, hundreds before tens, and so forth.

Solution:  To the specified number, add a zero to the end. For example, 5 × 10 = 50

Solution:  Let’s say we need to multiply six by twelve.

Step 1: Take the stated number and multiply it by ten. (6 x 10) = 60

Step 2: Take the stated number and multiply it by two. (6 × 2 = 12)

Step 3: Combine the results from steps 1 and 2 (60+12 = 72).

As a result, 6 * 12 = 72.
