Area of Hemisphere

In the following article, we are going to know about the Area of the Hemisphere.

Introduction:

In general, a hemisphere refers to half of the world, such as the northern or southern hemisphere. In geometry, however, a hemisphere is a three-dimensional shape formed by splitting a sphere into two equal halves, each with one flat side. In real life, we come across a variety of hemisphere-shaped things. For example, cutting a cherry in half yields a hemisphere-shaped cherry, while cutting a grapefruit in half yields a hemisphere. The word hemisphere can be broken down into hemi and sphere, with Hemi denoting half and sphere denoting a three-dimensional shape in mathematics. As a result, a hemisphere is a three-dimensional geometric object consisting of half of a sphere with one side flat and the other as a round bowl. It is created by cutting a spherical through the exact centre of its diameter, resulting in two equal hemispheres. The base or face of the hemisphere refers to the flat side of the hemisphere. As a result, it’s regarded as an exact half of a spherical.

A Hemisphere’s Characteristics

Because a hemisphere is the exact half of a sphere, they have many of the same qualities. The following are the details:

  • The surface area of a hemisphere is curved.
  • A hemisphere has no edges and no vertices, just like a sphere.
  • A hemisphere has one round base and one curved surface, however, it is not a polyhedron because polyhedrons are formed up of polygons.
  • A hemisphere’s diameter is defined as a line segment that travels through the centre and hits two opposed locations on the hemisphere’s base.
  • A hemisphere’s radius is a line segment from the hemisphere’s centre to a point on its curved surface.

Hemisphere’s Surface Area

A hemisphere’s surface area is defined as the area covered by the hemisphere’s faces. The curved surface area of a hemisphere is included in the overall surface area, as is the hemisphere’s base area.

What is the Hemisphere’s Surface Area?

The total area of a hemisphere’s face is its surface area. A hemisphere is a 3-D form created by cutting a sphere along a plane that passes through its centre. A hemisphere is half of a spherical. The hemisphere’s surface area can be measured in square units.

Hemisphere Surface Area Formula

The formula for a hemisphere’s surface area can be applied to both solid and hollow hemispheres. A hemisphere’s surface area is the total area covered by its faces.

It can be categorized into two major types:

  1. A hemisphere’s curved surface area (CSA)
  2. A hemisphere’s entire surface area (TSA)

The formula for a Hemisphere’s Curved Surface Area

A hemisphere’s curved surface area is the area covered by its curved surface. It’s exactly half of a sphere’s surface area. The following formula can be used to compute the curved surface area of a hemisphere of radius ‘r’.

The formula for The Total Surface Area(TSA) of a Hemisphere

The total space filled by the curved surface and the base surface of the hemisphere is defined as the total surface area of the hemisphere. The sum of the areas of a hemisphere’s curved surface and the base surface can be used to compute its total surface area. It’s worth noting that a hemisphere’s base is a circle. If the radius of a hemisphere is known, the total surface area may be determined using the formula:

The radius of the hemisphere is denoted by r.

The formula for the Surface Area (SA) of a Hollow Hemisphere

How to Calculate a Hemisphere’s Surface Area

The surface area of a hemisphere can be computed using different formulas for a hollow or solid hemisphere, depending on whether we’re looking for the curved surface area or the overall surface area.

Hemisphere’s Curved Surface Area

CSA of hemisphere = 2 π r2 is the formula for calculating the Curved Surface Area (CSA) of a hemisphere of radius r. The instructions below demonstrate how to calculate a hemisphere’s curved surface area

Step 1: Determine the hemisphere’s radius (r)

Step 2: Substitute the radius (r) value and use the formula CSA of hemisphere = 2 π r2 to calculate the curved surface area of the hemisphere.

Step 3: Use square units to represent the final answer.

Hemisphere’s Total Surface Area

TSA of hemisphere = 3 π r2 is the formula for calculating the total surface area (TSA) of a hemisphere of radius r. To find the total area of a hemisphere, we follow the methods outlined below.

Step 1: Determine the hemisphere’s radius (r).

Step 2: Substitute the radius (r) value and use the formula TSA of hemisphere = 3 π r2 to calculate the total surface area of a hemisphere.

Step 3: Write the solution in square units.

Hollow Hemisphere Surface Area

The following steps can be used to compute the surface area of a hollow hemisphere:

Step 1: Determine the hollow hemisphere’s inner (r) and outer (R) radiuses.

Step 2: Using the formula TSA of hollow hemisphere = 3 π R2 + π r2, calculate the total surface area of the hemisphere.

Step 3: In square units, represent the final answer.
