What Are Machine Tools?

How Is The Cutting Tool Of A Milling Machine Mounted?

This allows the cutter to be positioned in different places on the workpiece. There are two types of mills: horizontal and vertical. In a horizontal mill, the table moves the workpiece in a left to the right direction. In a vertical mill, the table moves up and down. The single point cutting tool moves against the work part to provide a planar surface; other geometries may be obtained by moving the work relative to the cutter. Metal is removed from the work part by advancing (or feeding) the tool into the rotating work. The depth of cut is controlled by advancing or retracting (or feeding) the tool in a direction at right angles to its axis of rotation.
