GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test. The students considering admission to the MBA course take this test to analyse themselves according to the GMAT scores. Based on the skills, tests cleared, etc., the GMAT score provided to the student ranges between 200 to 800. The test is divided into several sections, and the student needs to have expertise in all sections because each one is compulsory to attempt. The Graduate Management Admission Test is an approximately 3 hours long, computer-based test for students seeking a scope in business administration.

Different sections of GMAT

The Graduate Management Admission Test is divided into four sections. Each section judges a particular skill of the students. Each section has a different time allotment and different scoring marks. The four distinct sections of the GMAT are as follows:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment, which consists of essay writing, has a time duration of half an hour. This assessment clearly reflects the student’s imagination and cognitive skills.
  • Integrated Reasoning is the section that is the basic test of the individual’s reasoning skills. It consists of 12 MCQs, and the time duration is half an hour.
  • The quantitative section is the section that is meant to challenge the problem-solving skills of the students. It consists of 31 MCQs under the time duration of 62 minutes.
  • Verbal is the section that consists of 36 MCQs under the time limit of 65 minutes, and the questions revolve around the topics like sentence correction, critical reasoning, comprehension, etc.

Eligibility for GMAT

Certain eligibility criteria are the boundaries for the student to get approval to attend the examination. The list of criteria to appear in the examination is as follows:

  • Students of all nationalities are eligible to appear in the examination. However, they need to submit their passport as their ID proof.
  • The student must be an undergraduate or appear in the last year of graduation. Moreover, the working officials can also appear for the examination.
  • There is no age limit for the GMAT. However, the students below 18 need a permission letter from their parents/guardians.
  • There is a limit on the number of times a student can appear in the examination. Therefore, an individual can appear only eight times. However, they can only attempt or appear five times in a 12-period year.

Choosing the Dates for GMAT

To choose the date for the GMAT examination, the student needs to look out for the deadline of the application to the targeted university. Therefore, based on the deadline, the student must take the test six months before that deadline. Under this duration, the student will have the flexibility to retake the test without barging the deadline. And the retake of the examination must have a minimum gap of one to two months to achieve the scores before the deadline ends.
