The “Battle of Bhopal” was a significant moment in history that helped sustain the Maratha dynasty across India. Peshwa Bajirao was an influential leader and his masterful leadership in the battle was crucial for the success of the Marathas. In the year 1737, the Mughal emperors were worrying regarding the increase in the Maratha dynasty. Therefore, the North Nizams were summoned by the Mughals to stop the increase in the Maratha dynasty. The battle was fought in the city of Bhopal. This battle secured full ownership of Malwa for the Maratha dynasty. The Nizam was forced to seek a settlement with Delhi regarding the ownership of Malwa.
The city of Bhopal was the battleground for one of the largest pitched battles fought in India in the 18th century. In 1737 the “Battle of Bhopal ” was fought between the Maratha forces and the combined armies of the Mughals, Nizams and the Rajput. The Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s death was a major reason for the decline of the Mughal dynasty. As the Mughal dynasty was starting to weaken, Maratha’s under the leadership of their inspirational leader “Peshwa Bajirao ” started to invade the lands near Gujarat and Malwa.
Peshwa Bajrao started to invade cities across the Mughal Empire and he was successful in reaching the outskirts of Delhi with his invasions. However, the rise of power for Bajorao was a matter of grave concern for the existing Mughal Empire. They planned and organised an attack on the Bajirao forces as he was returning with his army from the invasion of cities in the outskirts of Delhi. Pursuing Bajirao implemented the tactics of poisoning the water and replenishing the Mughal combined forces. After denying reinforcements from Delhi the Nizam of Hyderabad was forced to sign a peace Treaty on 7th January 1738.
