Ferroptosis has been found as the major cell death mechanism which causes COVID-19 lung disease.
About Ferroptosis:
- It is a form of regulated cell death caused by a toxic buildup of lipid peroxideson cell membranes.
- This kind of cell death is known as “FERroptosis” since it needs iron.
- Several studies have linked ferroptosis with many diseases, including ischemia-reperfusion and kidney injuries, nervous system diseases etc.
- Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death that is characterized by the accumulation of lipid peroxidation and iron-dependent reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells.
- Understanding the pathways of ferroptosis can provide insights into developing new therapeutic strategies for these diseases.
