What is the Girmit Act?

Ans:When the British had colonised India, they had sent millions of indentured labourers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to various other colonies under them, such as Mauritius, Caribbean Islands, etc. Similarly, the French, the Dutch, and the Portuguese colonisers have also sent Indian labourers to their colonies. This time-bound contract covering all such migrations was known as the Girmit Act.
