About The Los Alerces National Park

Los Alerces National Park is located in northern Patagonia's Andes, and its western boundary coincides with Chile. The topography in the region has been shaped by several glaciations, such as moraines, etc.

Los Alerces National Park is located in Northern Patagonia’s Andes, and its western boundary coincides with the Chilean border. It has a shield zone which involves the adjoining Los Alerces National Reserve and an extra area that forms a 10 km broadband throughout the property except where its western boundary coincides with Chile. Dense temperate woods dominate the vegetation, which gives place to alpine meadows further up beneath the granite Andean peaks. Its Alerce forest is highly distinctive and symbolic; the internationally threatened Alerce tree is the world’s second-longest living tree species (>3,600 years).

About Los Alerces National Park

The Los Alerces National Park is positioned in the Futaleufu River basin, which holds a complex network of rivers and confined lakes that manage the drainage of the considerable snow and rain precipitation. The appearance of the Patagonian Forest, which surrounds a part of southern Chile and Argentina, directs the property. This forest is one of the world’s five restrained forest types and the only restrained forest ecoregion in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Alerce woodland on the site is in good conservation condition. The resource is critical for maintaining some of the prevailing untouched stretches of Patagonian forest. It is home to various rare and vulnerable flora and wildlife, involving the longest-living community of Alerce trees and a South American conifer. This region’s landscape has been shaped by successive glaciations, which have resulted in a scenically spectacular variety of geomorphic features such as moraines, clear-water lakes, glacial rivers and lake deposits, glacial cirques, hanging valleys,  chain-like lagoons, U-shaped valleys and sheepback rocks.

Protection and Administration Needs

It belongs to Argentina’s National System of Protected Areas, a self-governing body overseen by the National Parks Administration. The property’s overriding legal goal is to be protected and conserved for scientific study, education, and pleasure by current and following generations.

Long-standing issues over land ownership rights on the exclusive property exist in the National Reserve, which is part of the barrier zone. Although private land is limited to a small region, usage rights elongate to a considerably more central part of the National Reserve. It is condemnable to seek a satisfying conclusion by participating with local people to minimise damage and maximise the advantages of World Heritage induction for stakeholders.

Because one of the property’s primary desirability is its high degree of genuineness, it is critical to evade any future developments that may lead to fragmentation of the land. The effects of the reservoir, Futaleufu Dam, and associated infrastructure should be closely studied to reduce past, present, and potential future problems.

Any considerable infrastructure restriction should be evaded. To protect the property’s Outstanding Universal Value, any continuing regular maintenance or inevitable renovations should be subjected to a comprehensive environmental impact study.

The provision of defensible tourism and leisure is an important administration goal constrained by zoning’s considerable geographical and managerial constraints. Despite these precautions, there are worries about increased tourism and relaxation, driven by improved local demand from adjacent towns. With the park’s World Heritage listing, such a market may expand.

Chubut Province

Chubut Province is positioned in southern Argentina, bordered by the 46th parallel south (Santa Cruz Province), the 42nd aligned south (Ro Negro Province), the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Andes range to the west. The province’s name is obtained from the word chupat, which means “transparent,” and is regarded as the Chubut River named Chubut Province.

The Comodoro Rivadavia military zone was established in 1944 in the southern section of Chubut and the northern part of Santa Cruz.

Chubut was named Chubut Province in 1955 when the zone was abolished. Mineral richness in the province was discovered through studies in the 1950s, which the government attempted to develop.

Population changes in the late twentieth century, mainly in Buenos Aires. People have been encouraged to relocate here by the government. Most of the residents are in the larger cities. They have also established themselves along the Chubut River. The majority of places have a population density of fewer than one person per square kilometre.

Conclusion

Chile and Argentina fought for the territory till 1881. Chile renounced its claim to keep Argentina from joining the Pacific War, which it was already executing against Peru and Bolivia. Argentina entrenched the National Territory of Chubut Province in 1884 as part of the Conquest of the Desert after the last endemic cacique, Inacayal, was abandoned by government forces. Luis Fontana has been chosen as governor. For thousands of years, before the Spaniards arrived in the Americas, nomadic indigenous Tehuelche people lived in Patagonia. They were hunter-gatherers who moved around in seasonal cycles in search of prey.
