The resource curse refers to the paradox that countries with an abundance of natural resources (like fossil fuels and certain minerals), tend to have less economic growth, less democracy, and worse development outcomes than countries with fewer natural resources. The fitting example would be of VENEZUELA whose economy is largely based on the petroleum sector and manufacturing. Venezuela's oil revenues accounts for about 95 per cent of export earnings making them heavily dependent on oil reserves.
