The first lesson of the course gives a basic overview to the students of the course and the basic terms and definitions that are related to surface chemistry. This lesson will help you understand the different topics we will cover in the course and their use. We will also understand through this the basic concepts and phenomena that are included and are considered as a part of the surface chemistry. The different concepts if adsorption and absorption will be talked about. We will also brief you with the colloidal state of matter and lastly will talk about catalysis and enzymes and how they act as catalysts.

Surface Chemistry and other Phenomena occurring on the Surfaces of the Substances

The lesson talks about adsorption that is an important phenomena of surface chemistry. It talks about the different types of adsorption depending on the type of forces between adsorbate and adsorbent and also depending upon their concentration. The lesson helps you understand the extent of adsorption of a gas on solids depending on different factors. Then it also talks about different adsorption isotherms and isobars. At last applications of adsorption are discussed and a few examples gave been given to support the understanding of the concept.

Adsorption as a Phenomena of Surface Chemistry

The lesson talks about the colloidal solution and the different types of solutions depending upon the size of the particles of the dispersed phase and the dispersion medium. Then it talks about the classification of colloidal based on various different properties. It also talks about the the various application of collide in the industry. Lastly it talks about the physical properties, the optical properties, the mechanical properties and the electrical properties of the colloids.

Colloidal State of Matter

The lesson talk about the various techniques of origin of charge on the colloidal particles. This lesson will talk about the various methods  of preparation of lyophobic sols in particular because lyophillic sols can be prepared by simply mixing the dispersed phase in the dispersion medium. There are various methods of preparation of these sols. The lesson also talks about the various methods of the purification of the colloidal sols. The colloidal sols can be purified by various methods like dialysis, ultrafiltration, ultra centrifugation .
To end with the video has a few solved examples on the various concepts of colloidal state of matter.

The lesson talks about catalysis as a process. The catalysis is of two types that is homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. There are different types of catalysts that is positive, negative, automatic and induced catalysts . Then the lesson talks about the mechanism if the catalytic reactions and the various theories explaining the catalytic reactions. The lesson also talks about the enzymes as catalysts and their theories. The lesson explain zeolites as shape selective catalyst. The video ends with the industrial application of the catalysts.
