Overview Part-VI Mughal Period - I

Europe was the zenith of its power, prosperity and glory under the Romans. The Roman Empire excelled the known world in virtually every field of art and sciences. The fall of Rome resulted in 'Dark Ages' and thus began the Medieval period in Europe that existed between the 5th and 15th centuries.

The lesson explains the main features of the Medieval Europe, which includes feudalism, superstitions, wars against the Muslim sultanates to save 'Christendom', Church politics, etc.

How the Portuguese managed to reach India was quite heroic and needs an introduction, at least. Therefore the lesson.

Lesson-3 The Road to the East

How the Portuguese consolidated their  hold over the route to India and extend the trade route to China and Japan, is a fascinating story. In the meantime, they established permanent bases in the Orient, including India.

Lesson-4 Portuguese India

The renaissance or rebirth of Europe was a transitional period between the medieval and modern periods of Europe.

It was largely a cultural movement, but there were other developments too, particularly in the field of sciences. New inventions and discoveries enlightened Europe and paved way for its rapid modernization.

This lesson also explains the features of the movement in different parts of Europe. It was not the same everywhere.

Although its a vast topic, only the portion of the Renaissance relevant for the study of Medieval India will be discussed here.

What existed between Timur and Babur is rarely studied and discussed in India. This lesson clearly explains the lineage between Timur and Babur, thus eliminating all confusions.

Lesson-7 The Timurids

The 5 Deccan Sultanates succeeded the Bahamanis by the end of the 15th century.

The greater Bahamani Sultanate split up into the following successor states :

2. Imadshahi of Berar 
3. Qutubshahi of Golconda
4. Baridshahi of Bidar
5. Adilshahi of Bijapur

The lesson contains a brief description of these Deccan Sultanates.
