UPSC - Civil Services Examination (IAS) Preparation

The course opens with the basic analysis of questions that appeared in Mains examination, to establish the depth in which we are about to study. The course then moves on to the basics of Stone age culture and Harappan Civilization. From the Harappan civilization, we move further into the Vedic History where we would discuss the idea of Literature and Religion. The age of Mahajanapadas and Mauryan Age would open up the cultural gate with respect to Buddhism, Jainism and other Heterodox sects along with this, we would encounter Buddhist Architecture. The Post Mauryan phase of Indo Greek and Kushanas will need a greater discourse on Numismatics and Sculpturing. The Gupta - Vakataka age would then be discussed in detail with emphasis on Literature especially the Sanskrit literature penned by great poets like Kalidasa and Bhasa. The focus of the course would then shift southwards toward the golden age of Sangam literature and Pallava - Chalukya and Pandyas. The zenith of the southern civilization would be then be discussed with the great Bronze sculpturing of Cholas. After the Cholas, we shift our attention back to North with the Harsha - Paramara - Chandelas who build magnificent temples like Kandariya Mahadeva temple and we will discuss the evolution of temple architecture in India and the various schools associated with it like the Nagara, Dravida and the Vesara temple styles. From the slumber, the Northern history is going to be rekindled with an influx from Islamic advent and Islamic Architecture, Persian influence etc reaching its Zenith during the Mughals. Apart from the Mughal Architecture, the miniature painting reaches a new peak during Mughals. The cultural synthesis further reaches new heights during the Bahmanis and Vijayanagara Empires. The course further goes ahead with British Architecture and the new form of Painting like Kalighat Painting. The course winds up with a discussion on important topics related to UNESCO.
