The vice president is the second important constitutional office of our Country . The Vice President is also the Chairman of the Council of states. But except this, he do not hold any other office of profit.
The Vice President acts as the President of India during the casual vacancies or during the other situations . Vice President cannot be the chairman of the Council of states while he is the President or discharges the function of the President . He is also not entitled to salary and allowance paid to Chairman of Rajya Sabha.

The election of Vice President is done by proportional representation by means of single transferrable vote. Election is done through secret ballot paper. Election commission conducts the procedure for election of Vice President.
There are  certain criteria for any candidate to be the Vice President like he should be above 35 years, should be citizen of India and should not hold any office of profit.

Election and Eligibility criteria for Vice President (in Hindi)

The tenure of Vice President is of 05 years. He can be removed from his office by passing a resolution by majority of members of Rajya Sabha. Then it is passed to Lok Sabha. A 14 days notice is given to the Vice President before passing the resolution. 
The oath of Vice President is Administered by President of India or by another member appointed by him on behalf.

Oath or Affirmation of Vice President and Terms of Office (in Hindi)

Vice President is the ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He has powers and authority similar to the speaker of Lok Sabha. The Vice President acts as the President or discharges the function of the President when the office of the President is vacant.

The salary of the Vice President is not fixed in the Indian Constitution. He draws the salary of the red officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He gets DA and other allowances.

DR. S Radhakrishnan was the first VP and held office twice. Hamid Ansari has also held office twice. Shri Krishan kant was the only VP who died during office.
