This the first and introductory part of the subject, Environment and Ecology, which has been divided into 6 parts for the ease of reference and learning.

This is an overview lesson of Part-I describing briefly the  contents of each lesson of the 12 lessons in it.
This part will cover the basics of ecology, biodiversity, overview of plant and animal kingdoms, habitats, wetlands, biodiversity hotspots, Ramsar sites, etc.

Overview Lesson - Ecology and Biodiversity (in Hindi)

In previous lesson we discussed about the criteria to identify a Ramsar site. Now in this lesson we will learn about the various Ramsar sites in India, which have been presented in tabular form as well as indicated on maps, region wise.

Also, the lesson describes Montreux Record and its applicability in India.

Apart from that few other facts about Ramsar sites are mentioned which are rarely discussed.

Lesson 1.2 Basic Concepts - II (in Hindi)

Animal Kingdom is a huge category. It has many phyla (plural of phylum) and classes within them.

In this lesson we will talk about the various phyla briefly and the classes within the category 'chordates'

Lesson-1.4 (Part-A) The Animal Kingdom

Various terms are to be understood before going further deeper into the subject.
These terms are briefly explained in this lesson. Students are advised to google the pictures too, in order to understand these concepts better.

Various terms and concepts of animal behaviour are needed to be understood well before proceeding further in this subject, Environment and Ecology.

Lesson 1.4 Annex-A Animal Behaviour-I (in Hindi)

Various animals display behaviour which have strange resemblance to human behaviour.

Lesson-4 Annex B Animal Behaviour Part-II (in Hindi)

There is a huge confusion among educational circles about forests. Worse, it does not match with the trade parlance, the words widely used through publications and mass media.

We need to understand precisely what forests are, how they are classified and what are the peculiarities of these.

Lesson 1.10A Forests in India - I (in Hindi)

In previous lesson we talked about the forests and few facts associated with them.
We also discussed about coniferous and broad-leaved forests. Now we shall continue with the remaining 6 types and classification accordingly, viz. evergreen, deciduous, thorny, mangrove, etc.

The classification of forests varies from author to author. Most widely accepted one is that of Champion and Seth (1968). According to it, 16  types of forests exist in India, grouped into sub-categories and categories.

This is the fourth and concluding part of our series on Indian forests. 

In the pervious lesson, we talked of 4 out of 16 categories of Champion and Seth classification. Now we shall discuss the rest 12, thus completing the categories of forests found in India.

Mangroves are a commonly quoted subject these days. But the classification is rarely studied. Actually it is one of the categories of Littoral forests. 

In this lesson we shall cover these various kinds of littoral forests, including swamps, mangroves, brackish water vegetation, etc.

Tundra is one of six terrestrial ecosystems, which we largely ignore perhaps because it is less bio-diverse.

Some of the features of Tundra are highly incredible, which we rarely know.
