An atom is the smallest particle of matter.
An atom is made up of three subatomic particles namely electrons,protons and neutrons.
Electrons are negatively charged,protons are positively charged while neutrons donor have any charge.

Atomic Structure.

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.
Matter generally exists in solid, liquid or gaseous state.
The main factor that makes matter exist in a particular state is their molecular arrangement.

Cells can be classified into prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.
A prokaryotic cell lacks membranous organelles like mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum etc. It has only one chromosome.
A eukaryotic cell has a definite nucleus and a number of membranous organelles.It has many chromosomes.
Eukaryotic cells can be in plants and animals.

Types of Cells.

All living organisms get energy from the food they take. This process of producing energy from food is called respiration.
After extracting useful nutrients from food,wastes are thrown out. This process is called excretion.
Movement is another important feature of all living beings. Movement of a animals from one place to another is called locomotion.

Cell Biology

Any cell is made up of three important components namely- cell membrane, cytoplasm and the nucleus. Cell membrane gives shape to the cell. Cytoplasm is the site of various biochemical reactions and Nucleus controls activities of the cell.

Cell Structure

There are different types of solutions like saturated solution, true solution, colloidal solution and suspension. 
The type of solution depends upon the size of particles present in it.

Heat is a form of energy while temperature is a measure of degree of hotness or coldness possessed by a  body. 

Heat is measured in calories or Joules. 1 Calorie = 4.18 Joules. 

Temperature is measured in degree Celsius/degree Fahrenheit/Kelvin. 
K= degree Celsius + 273.

Gregor Mendel, who is referred to as the Father of Genetics has formed some laws. These are called Laws of Heredity or Mendelian principles. They are:

Law of dominance 
Law of segregation 
Law of independent assortment.

Diffusion is movement of molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration. Ex:gases like CO2 and O2.

Osmosis is a special type of diffusion where water molecules move from higher concentration to lower concentration across a  semipermeable membrane.

A body is said to be in motion when it keeps changing its original position. 
There are different types of motion  viz. translatory motion, oscillatory motion, circular motion and vibratory motion.

There are three laws of motion:
First law of motion or law of inertia. 
Second law of motion. (Momentum)
Third law of motion.

Acceleration due to gravity is the  force of attraction exerted by earth on a free falling object. It is denoted by 'g'. 

According to Universal Law of Gravitation, there is a force of attraction between any two bodies in the universe. This law is given by the formula 
           F= G Mm/d2
G is called the Universal gravitational constant.

We use many chemicals in our daily life.  Some are used in cooking like common salt and baking soda. Some are used as raw materials in industries like washing soda, some are used to keep the places germfree like bleaching powder and so on.

Matter can be classified into pure and Impure substances based on their composition. 
Elements and compounds are called pure substances while mixtures are called impure substances.

There are 118 elements discovered so far. Elements are classified into metals,  non-metals and metalloids based on some properties.

Metallurgy is a process of extracting pure metals from their ores. 
Ores are minerals from which metals can be extracted conveniently and economically. 
Different steps are involved in the extraction of metals from their ores like concentration of the ore, converting it into oxide ore, reducing it, refining it etc.

Metals react with air ,water ,dilute acids and also with non-metals. 

Some metals when exposed to the atmosphere corrode.

Iron goods can be prevented from corrosion by painting, greasing, galvanizing etc.

Alloys help in getting the desired properties from the metals.
