For any chemical reactions 

a, The feasibility of a chemical reaction which can be predicted by thermodynamics 

b: Extend to which a reaction will proceed an be determined from chemical reaction

C. Speed of a reaction time taken by a reaction to reach equilibrium 

Chemical kinetics: Branch of chemistry which deals with the study of reaction rates and mechanism 

Rate of reaction - The change in concentration of a reactant or product in unit time 
1. The rate decreased with decrease in concentration of any product 

2. The rate increased with increase in energy

Factors influencing rate of reaction 

1. Concentration of reactants

Rate law: The rate of reaction in terms of concentration of the reactants

Order of reaction: Sum of powers of the concentration of the reactants in the rate law

Order - 0,1,2,3 and even fraction also

Molecularly of a reaction 

The no of reacting species taking part in an elementary reaction which must collide simultaneously in order to bring out a reaction 

The overall rate of reaction is controlled by the slowest step in a reaction - rate determining step 

Order is experimental value but molarity is theoretical value

Half life of a reaction 

The half life of a reaction is the time in which the concentration of a reactant is reduced to one half initial concentration 

t1/2 = 0.693/k

Temperature dependance of the rate of a reaction :

For a chemical reaction with rise in temperature by 10 degree the rate constant is nearly doubled 

K = Ae-Ea /Rt

A- Arrehenius factor 

R- Universal gas constant 

Ea- activation Energy 

The energy required to form intermediate called activated complex is known as activation Energy

Effect of catalyst 

A catalyst is a substance which alerts the rate of a reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change 

A catalyst participates in a chemical reaction by forming temporary bonds with the reactant resulting in an intermediate complex

The collision in which molecules collide with sufficient kinetic energy and proper orientation so as to facilitate breaking of bonds between reacting species and formation of new bond to form products are as called effective collisions

Eg: CH3br+ OH- -----> CH3OH + Br-

It follows SN2 mechanism,  first order kinetics
