In this lesson , we discuss the definition , features and objectives of federalism. We also discuss briefly about unitary governments. The two types of federations i.e., the coming together federation and the holding together frderation have also been discussed in this lesson.

What is Federalism?

In this lesson , we discuss about the powers and jurisdiction of the two levels of government. We discuss the Union , State and Concurrent List. The case of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territories is also discussed. We also discuss the role of the Constitution and Judiciary in this power sharing arrangement.

What Makes India a Federal Country?

In this lesson , we discuss the linguistic states and the language policy in India. We also discuss the Centre - state relations in India.

How is Federalism Practiced?

In this lesson , we discuss the need and importance of decentralisation in India. We also discuss the various constitutional amendments that have strengthened the decentralisation in India. We then discuss the Panchayati  Raj and urban local bodies in detail.
