Overview: Theory of Machines 1 (for GATE aspirants)

In this lesson, Sheetal Bansal has discussed the various terms used in mechanisms, link, kinematic pairs classification, and types of constrained motion.

Simple Mechanism - 1

Through this lesson one will study about  degree of freedom, kinematic chain, what is structure, mechanisms, Grabler equation, numerical on DOF.

Simple Mechanisms - 2

In this lesson, one will study about Grashoffs law and its application in our four bar mechanism to find whether we have double crank, the crank and rocker or double rocker mechanisms depending on the lengths of links and fixed link.

Simple Mechanism - 3

In this lesson Sheethal will discuss in detail the crank and slotted lever mechanisms and formula for length of stroke , also inversions of double slider crank mechanisms like elliptical trammel, scotch and yoke mechanism, Oldham's coupling.

Simple Mechanism - 4

In this lesson, one will understand and be learning the concepts pertaining to 4 things which a vibrating system may possess, natural or free vibrations, D - Lambert's principle, energy conservation method and various numerical.

Natural Vibration

In this lesson, we will study about two different methods to solve numerical of natural vibrations from torques method and Rayleigh method, and also various numerical on these methods.

Natural Vibrations - Torque and Rayleigh Method

Through this lesson, one will understand about longitudinal vibrations, transverse vibrations, torsional vibration, introduction of damped vibrations, basic equation etc.

Damped Vibrations

In this lesson, Sheetal throws light on the effects of various  types of roots of auxiliary equations on our vibrating system , why over damped and critically systems are not vibrating systems, decrement ration and logarithmic decrement.

Over Damped, Under Damped and Critically Damped Vibrations

In this lesson, forced damped vibration in which there is acting one external unbalanced harmonic force, magnification factor, vibration isolation and whirling of shafts, are discussed. Also, Sheetal has solved one standard numerical related to topic.

Forced Damped Vibrations

In this lesson, Sheetal has discussed the meaning of a gear , use of a gear, classification of gears, terminology used in gears, various terms of gears like pitch circle , module etc.

Introduction of Gears

In this lesson, one will study about law of gearing and different conclusion from law of gearing, also formulas for path of approach, path of recess, path of contact, arc of approach, arc of recess, arc of contact, and contact ratio.

Law of Gearing

In this lesson, the aspirants will get introduced to the term interference and undercutting. Then the methods to avoid interference and there advantage and disadvantages, most favorable method to avoid interference are discussed in detail.

Introduction to Interference

In this lesson, one will study the minimum no of teeth on gear and pinion to avoid interference and tricks to solve questions on interference, also he has discussed effect of variation of center distance in involute profiles and basics of cycloidal profile.

Continuation of Interference

In this lesson, one will understand what is the need of a gear train, types of gear trains, simple and compound gear trains and the basic difference between simple and compound gear trains.

Introduction to Gear Trains

Reverted gear train is a special case of compound gear train which will be used to transmit power in co-axial shafts and in this lesson we will study it along with a general concept which is of high use in reverted and epicyclic gear trains.

In this lesson, we will study about epicyclic gear trains , planetary gear trains, easy method to solve numerals on epicyclic gear train and holding torque of gears.
