Overview

I'll introduce the concept of Relative Motion in this lesson and we'll also talk about two very basic concepts of Relative Position and Relative Velocity.

Introduction to Relative Motion

We'll see the general method of calculating various Relative parameters like Relative Position, Relative Velocity and Relative Acceleration. Then we'll learn about the equation of Motion that we can use for solving problems where Relative Acceleration is constant. Lastly, we'll finish off the lesson by learning briefly about Velocity of Approach and Separation which we will see in depth in the next upcoming lessons.

Calculation of Relative Parameters

We'll study the concept of Velocity of Separation and Approach in detail and see some illustrations to understand the concept in a better way.

Velocity of Approach/Separation

We'll solve some questions based on Relative Motion in one dimension.

Illustrations on Relative Motion in One Dimension

We'll extend our understanding of Relative Motion in one dimension and will discuss about Relative Motion in Two Dimensions.

We'll also see two cases of Relative Motion in Two Dimensions. One is that of free fall or when Relative Acceleration becomes zero. Other is of Projectile Motion in an accelerating lift.

Relative Motion in Two Dimensions

We'll solve some questions of Relative Motion in a lift and then we'll study a new topic of Relative Motion in River. We'll discuss what happens to the velocity of the man when he swims upstream as well as when he swims downstream.

Relative Motion in River (One Dimension)

We'll start off with a River Problem in One Dimension and then we'll learn about Relative Motion in River in two dimensions.

We'll see how much time would a man take to cross a River and we will take a look at the concept of Drift and how Drift is calculated.

Relative Motion in River (2 Dimensions)

We'll discuss the minimum possible time in which a man or a boat can cross the river and then we'll understand how crossing with shortest path is different from crossing in shortest possible time.

We'll see that crossing with the shortest possible path leads to minimum drift and we'll also see the condition required for zero Drift followed by the condition required for minimum but non-zero drift.
