EXPLANATION OF STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL (in Hindi)

Companies process, collect and report on large volumes of data. In her 2007 book on business intelligence, Cindi Howson suggests that the average manager spend two hours per day hunting for data. Half of the information located later turns out to be useless. Businesses need to find efficient methods to turn their data into usable information.

In this world of hard competition and globalization quality has become the necessity and the requirement of every customer. Quality is must to win the game of competition. Quality is a mandatory factor to retain the customers. Poor quality leads to loss of customers. This paper has been made to make the readers aware about the concept of Total Quality Management (TQM). The research methodology used in this paper is purely based on research work. This includes data based on primary and secondary sources. Secondary sources include various research papers, news papers, professional journals, magazines, text books an d various websites. Primary data was collected with the help of personal interactions, telephonic interactions with the learned people.

TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT TODAY AND TOMORROW (in Hindi)

Note: “Total quality management” as a term to describe an organization's quality policy and procedure has fallen out of favor as international standards for quality management have been developed. Please see our series of pages on Quality Management Systems for more information.

When planning and implementing a total quality management system or quality management strategy, there is no one solution for every situation.

Each organization is unique in terms of the culture, management practices, and the processes used to create and deliver its products and services. The quality management strategy will then vary from organization to organization; however, a set of primary elements should be present in some format.

TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION RECOMMENDATIONS (in Hindi)

Purpose

– The main objectives of the present research were to: look at the strategic role‐played by the HR professionals at various stages of TQM implementation; identify precisely how do they operate as internal consultants; study the interface between HRD and other departments to support TQM; and uncover various human resources challenges associated with TQM implementation in the sample organization.


Design/methodology/approach

– Data were collected both from the primary and secondary sources. The secondary data had been retrieved from the sources like the files, records, and documents, Annual Reports of the Company. Nevertheless, the analysis made is primarily based upon findings of the structured interview held with the senior executives of the HRD and Personnel Department, TQM‐ISO Cell, and other Supporting Departments, and trade unionist leaders.


Findings

– The study finds out that the HR professionals helped out the top management in aligning HR and quality policies; formulating quality friendly policies, systems and procedures; crafting and communicating the TQM mission and vision; generating quality awareness among employees; get organized the organization as well as employees for TQM implementation; developing managerial support to quality action plans (QAPs); organizing quality workshops and TQM training programs; and shifting the conventional mind‐set of employees, etc. in the sample organization. They act as internal consultants to other departments in quality matters. Implementation of TQM in the company has engendered a number of HR challenges for instance, motivating knowledge workers, mobilizing key managerial personnel, obtaining employees satisfaction, overcoming communication barriers, resolving problems associated with PSU trappings and vastness of the organization, etc.


Research limitations/implications

– The study on its face appears to be limited as it is carried out in a single Indian organization, i.e. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited/Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant. Thus, its findings cannot be generalized.


Practical implications

– The study prescribes certain HR strategies to strengthen the TQM‐HRM bondage in the company.


Originality/value

– The findings are very useful from the standpoint of HR professionals.

For lean six sigma

If you work in a field that requires precision (i.e. healthcare, manufacturing, engineering, etc.) then Lean Six Sigma may have more benefits to you due to the dependency on data gathering and monitoring any variation that occurs. This can be a very productive way to ensure the quality of your services and products. Through using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) each change inducted into a process is carefully monitored.

For Total Qwality management

If your industry is more service-based or less precise, total quality management may work best for you in your situation. This means that you improve quality by having a purpose, erasing boundaries between divisions in the company, and ensure the training of every individual. Customer service might be an example where TQM is more appropriate than Lean Six Sigma.
