A power semiconductor device is basically a semiconductor device used as a switch in the field of power electronics for power conversion which includes AC to DC converters, DC to DC converters, DC to AC converters and AC to AC converters. Various such devices are a power diode, BJT, MOSFET, IGBT, SCR, etc. which will be discussed throughout this course.

Power Semiconductor Devices

An AC to DC Converter or commonly known as a Rectifier is a power electronic device that converts AC power to DC power. The configurations of the same are briefly classified into two - Half Wave and Full wave. Based on the control, it can be classified into two - Controlled and Uncontrolled. A Controlled Rectifier uses SCR, Power MOSFET, IGBTs, etc as switches and Uncontrolled Rectifier uses Diodes.
