Class 10th NCERT Summary

This Overview lesson includes the objectives of this course along with the target audiences. This lesson also gives a rough outline of what all lessons are we going to cover in this entire course.

Course Overview

This lesson includes the classification of resources on different basis, development of Resources, resource planning, Land resources, Land use pattern in India, Land degradation and conservation measures.

Resources and Development

This lesson includes a section on biodiversity and further contains the categories of existing plants and animals species as per IUCN. It also has a brief description about the negative factors that cause depletion of flora and fauna, consequences of that and conservation of forest and wildlife in India. Further it also has a section on distribution of forest and wildlife resources and community and conservation.

Forest and Wildlife Resources

This lesson gives a brief introduction about water resources, reasons for water scarcity , need for water conservation and management, multipurpose river projects and rainwater harvesting.

Water Resources

This lesson has a brief section on types of farming followed by the cropping pattern in India where the three cropping seasons - Rabi, Kharif and Zaid are discussed. Further there are small sections on technological and institutional reforms, contribution of agriculture to national economy, employment and output and food security. Thereafter there is detailed description of different kinds of crops- food crops ( grains and others ) and non food crops.

Agriculture in India

This lesson includes information about what is a mineral, classification of minerals, mode of occurrence of minerals , forms in which minerals occur and their distribution. Further there is detailed description of different kinds of minerals like - ferrous, non ferrous, non metallic and rock minerals.

Mineral Resources

This lesson has detailed descriptions of different types of conventional sources of energy - coal, petroleum, natural gas, hydro and thermal electricity. It also contains a section on non conventional sources of energy like nuclear energy, solar, wind ,tidal, geothermal energy and biogas along with conservation of energy resources.

Energy Resources

This lesson includes sections on manufacturing and it's importance, ideal location of an industry, industry- market linkage, classification of industries, Agro based industries, Mineral based Industries, IT industry, Industrial Pollution and Environmental Degradation.

Manufacturing Industries

This lesson is divided on three broad sections- transport, communication and trade. In transport, there are further discussion on roadways, railways, pipelines, airways, waterways.This is followed by two brief sections on communication and trade.

Life Lines of National Economy

This lesson includes the important maps given in the Class X NCERT book - distribution of soil, major dams and rivers, distribution of minerals, distribution of energy resources, power plants, software technology parks, major sea ports and airports.
