The lesson introduces us to the various benefits of Forests and the need for forests.
Furthermore, we see how the Colonial state of State under the British enhanced deforestation for cultivation and brought down many forests for the said reason. We discussed one of the reasons for deforestation as well.

Introduction to Forest Society - Lesson 1

This lesson gives us a detailed overview of the other reasons for Deforestation in India, which are Sleepers for railway tracks and Plantations. These two reasons led to further déforestation and cutting down of Natural Forests for sleepers and cultivation.

Other reasons for Deforestation - Lesson 2

The lesson is about how Britishers realizing the importance of Forests  call in German Expert to preserve forests and we see the Introduction of Indian Forest Service, Indian Forest Act and the Imperial Forest Research Institute.
We also look into the concept of Scientific Forestry and and amendments made to the Forest Act.

The lesson closely speaks about the effect of the Forest Act on the people and how the society was divided into Foresters and Villagers, both of them having different views about how Forests are required to be.
