Overview: Modern Indian History

After Aurangzeb, none of the Mughal could handle the empire. They were either weak and inefficient or were bound by the circumstances.Therefore the mighty empire started disintegrating.

Social Reformers

Various political parties were formed prior to Indian National Congress but INC had a national character and later it became the carrier of National movement.

INC Inception, Moderates and Extremists

This was the earliest faction of INC who exposed the exploitation of India at the hands of Britain but believed into petitions and constiyutional methods to put foeward their demands.

The Moderates Era 1885-1905

On contrary to moderates, extremists were more aggressive and expressive. The Swadeshi struggle was meant to oppose Partition of Bengal in which extremists took the command from moderates and brought a new wave of Nationalism.

Extremists and moderates could not resolve their difference and this lead to split at Surat in 1907. Thus also extinguished the Swadeshi movement.

Finally the two sections of INC reunited at Lucknow session 1916. Muslimm league also joined hands with congress to put forward commoon demands brfor govt. Meannwhile Tiak and Annie Besant started Home rule movement.
