Course Overview

This lesson is covering basic concepts that are required to learn the SOM. After this lesson, you will be able to write equilibrium equations, make components along given axis and will be able to draw free body diagram of given system.

Learn Pre-Requisite: Part 1

In this lesson we will learn about area moment of inertia, using perpendicular and parallel axis theorems to calculate the moment of inertia.We will also learn the various type of supports and calculating reaction forces.After this lesson, you will be ready to learn SOM.

This is a very basic lesson of this course that will help you to learn various type if loads, naming and recognizing them.We will start with classification and then try to develope feel of various stresses.

Classification and Identification of Loads

In this lesson, you will learn calculating stress and strain in a given direction, volumetric strain, graphical and matrix representation of stress.We will also learn about hook's law, elastic constant and relation between them.

After completing this lesson you will be able to calculate elongation of bars arranged in series under axial loading, stress induced in composite bars under axial loading and strain and stress in the member due to variation in temperature.

After learning this lesson you will be able to calculate strain energy in a member under axial loading, shear force, bending and twisting moment and any combination of these.We will also cover stress vs strain diagram for a mild steel specimen undergoing tensile testing.
