The lesson focuses on defining scheduled areas and criteria for declaration of scheduled areas. Thereby the lesson throws light on the development of principles for the ​declaration of scheduled areas and its evolution since Independence.

The Scheduled Areas - Basics

The lesson focuses on defining scheduled areas in terms of constitutional aspects - Article 244 & 244A - provisions for formation of Autonomous state within the state of Assam in scheduled areas.  Thereby the lesson also throws light on the Scheduled Tribes- its definition & criteria.​

The lesson starts with School of Thoughts for Tribal development like Isolation, Assimilation and Integrationist theories. Then, it lists all the Constitutional Provisions for Tribal protection, promotion, ​and safeguards.  Thereby the lesson also throws light on the education , economic and public employment of tribals along with agency for monitoring safeguards.

The lesson covers Statutory Acts for Tribals i.e. Protection of Civil Rights (PCR), 1955 and Prevention of Atrocities Act(POA), 1989. It lists all the provisions of PCR and POA with the ​latest amendment safeguarding tribal interests empowering them to secure their identity and future.

The lesson brings insight into FRA Act in terms of implementation lags and challenges. Then it depicts the requirement of Forest Right Act to bring reforms in terms of provision of funds, capacity building and need of securing community forest resource for tribes for their social, economic and cultural rehabilitation.

The lesson begins with the explanation of Scheduled areas with historical background during the British period, and then the ​post-Independence establishment of Bardoloi Committee which recommended the need of Schedule V and VI.  Further, it delves into provisions for Schedule V and Schedule VI along with issues and remedies.

The lesson begins with insights into the Geographical location of Tribals and level of development for Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). It further, delineates the Government schemes for PVTGs for long-term​ conservation and development.

Then, it describes need of a National Tribal Policy which should be the basis for integration of tribals into societal mainstream.
