In a chemical reaction, chemical equilibrium is the state in which both reactants and products are present in concentrations which have no further tendency to change with time, so that there is no observable change in the properties of the system.Usually, this state results when the forward reaction proceeds at the same rate as the reverse reaction. The reaction rates of the forward and backward reactions are generally not zero, but equal. The theory of chemical reactions also indicates that rates of reactions are generally enhanced by increase of temperature. However, experience shows that the maximum quantum of conversion of reactants to products does not increase monotonically. Indeed for a vast majority the maximum conversion reaches a maximum with respect to reaction temperature and subsequently diminishes. All these factors related to Reaction Equilibrium have been discussed in this course.

Chemical Reaction Equilibria for GATE 2019 Chemical Engineering

This course comprises of the fundamental property relationship with the concepts of fugacity, partial molar property, Gibbs-Duhem Equation, criteria for thermodynamic equilibrium, residual and excess properties, non-ideal solutions, fugacity and activity coefficient models, Lewis Randall Rule. So basically other than temperature and pressure, we will consider concentration also here in terms of Chemical Potential.

(Hindi) Part II: Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics- CET II

The second law of thermodynamics says that when energy from one form to another form, or the matter moves freely, entropy (disorder) in a closed system increases. Entropy is a measure of spread of matter and energy to every where they have access. This course will include the discussion on heat engine, refrigerator and heat pump. Carnot cycle in forward and reverse direction will also be discussed. Moreover, we will also tend to cover all the GATE questions related to the above mentioned topics.

The course quantifies the general thermodynamic principles and relates applied energy and the consequent change of state of any real world system.
