Question 1 of 5

According to the World Factbook of the CIA, the global agricultural output is around $ 4,771 billion. But a full 42 percent of this output comes from just six countries: China ($ 1,005 billion) being the largest producer, followed by India ($ 367 billion), the US ($ 279 billion), Brazil ($ 130 billion), Nigeria ($ 122 billion) and Indonesia ($ 121 billion). As one can see, other than the US, five of the six global leaders in agricultural output are developing countries.

What can be inferred from the above paragraph?

A

The US may be a developed economy in terms of services and manufacturing but when it comes to the agriculture sector, it lags behind India or China.

B

A cartel of five or six countries determines agricultural price movements and dominates overall buying and selling of agricultural products.

C

Developed countries depend heavily on developing countries for imports of agricultural commodities.

D

There is little doubt that despite being a 'developing country', India is an agricultural powerhouse of the world.

E

The state of agriculture in developed countries is nothing to write home about.
