According to the World Factbook of the CIA, the global agricultural output is around $ 4,771 billion. But a full 42 percent of this output comes from just six countries: China ($ 1,005 billion) being the largest producer, followed by India ($ 367 billion), the US ($ 279 billion), Brazil ($ 130 billion), Nigeria ($ 122 billion) and Indonesia ($ 121 billion). As one can see, other than the US, five of the six global leaders in agricultural output are developing countries.
What can be inferred from the above paragraph?
The US may be a developed economy in terms of services and manufacturing but when it comes to the agriculture sector, it lags behind India or China.
The state of agriculture in developed countries is nothing to write home about.
