The Graduate Management Admission Council conducts the GMAT test. A national-level examination aims to guide eligible candidates to MBA programs offered by institutions in the country and foreign universities. The GMAT 2023 exam will be conducted online or at allotted examination centres, and candidates can appear for the exam at their convenience.

GMAT Online Exam
Owing to the COVID- 19 pandemic, the council has introduced an online examination for candidates who wish to take the examination from home. So, candidates can either go to an exam centre or opt for the online option to appear for the test.
Number of Attempts
The GMAC has increased the number of attempts for the GMAT online examination from 2 to 5 in a year and 8 in a lifetime. The online exam provides 5 free score reports, which should be used within 48 hours after the official online exam score is available. If additional score reports are required, they can be purchased for US$35 each. GMAC has also announced that it will accept the Aadhaar card for the online exam from Indian students. However, during the registration process, these candidates must validate their identity using the Aadhaar card or passport.

GMAT Eligibility
Following are the eligibility criteria that should be met before applying for the examination.
Age Criteria
- The candidate should be 18+ years
- There is no fixed upper age limit
- In case the aspirant is between 13 – 17 years of age, they should have a permission letter duly signed by the parents or the legal guardian
Educational Qualification
Candidates should have a graduate degree from a recognized University
GMAT Exam Fees
The GMAT examination fee is approximately $275 (Rs.20,600/-). If an applicant wishes to change their centre or reschedule the test, they will have to pay extra for the facility.
- GMAT Cancellation Fee
If the candidate wants to withdraw from the exam:
- 1 to 14 days before the exam is to be held – $200 will be charged, and only $50 will be refunded
- 15 to 60 days before the exam – $75 will be refunded, and the rest will be charged as a cancellation fee
- 60+ days before the date of the test- a $150 cancellation fee will be charged, and $100 will be refunded to the candidate
Note: this facility cannot be provided 24 hours before the test.
- GMAT Rescheduling Fee
In case the exam is rescheduled:
- 1 – 14 days before the exam date – US$150 will be charged
- 15 – 60 days before the exam – US$100 will be charged
- 60+ days before the exam – US$50 will be charged
GMAT Registration
Registration can be done a maximum of 6 months before the test date and a minimum of 24 hours before the GMAT exam date.

GMAT Exam Dates
There is no fixed GMAT exam date, and the candidates can choose a date according to availability and convenience. If the candidate wishes to reappear, it can be done after 16 days. A candidate can attempt m maximum of 5 times a year, and the total number of attempts in a lifetime is 8.
GMAT Exam Pattern
The GMAT examination pattern consists of 4 sections:
- Analytical Writing
- Integrated Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Verbal Reasoning
The time duration of the test is 3 hours 30 minutes with a maximum score of 800 points.
Note: The candidates can avail of 2 optional 8 – minutes breaks during the examination.
Syllabus of GMAT

- Analytical Writing Assessment— This section judges the candidates’ ability to think critically and put their ideas to use
- Integrated Reasoning— This section measures the ability to analyse and evaluate information
- Quantitative Reasoning— It measures the reasoning skills of the candidate by judging the ability to analyse data and draw conclusions
- Verbal Reasoning— It judges the candidate on his reading and understanding capacity.
GMAT Score
Candidates should not ignore but understand their GMAT score and score report. The score will be available on the council’s official website immediately after finishing the GMAT test. The GMAT score report and the AWA score will be made available within 20 days of the conclusion of the exam.
