Ans : Alkali metals form basic compounds when dissolved in water as they react with it vigorously to form caustic alkaline solutions.For example,Sodium reacts strongly with water to form a colourless solution consisting of strongly alkalic sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and hydrogen gas.
