A pawn is called an Isolated Pawn when no other pawn is on the adjacent file. Such pawn is more vulnerable, compared to connected pawns. A player often finds how troublesome a pawn can be, when it is separated from other pawns, and can not be supported by any of them. Such isolated pawn loses the simplest and most economical protection from another pawn and becomes vulnerable. Isolated pawn leads to a passive position, since pieces are tied down to defense, and it becomes more noticeable in the endgame
